home made - just like mum made

As some of you know I have been making chutneys and relishes for more years than I care to remember and I have been asked so many times to start "producing" these for purchase. No pressure!

Well, I have finally decided to bite the bullet and do it and NoShortcuts was born in December 2008… having an interesting few weeks getting it all underway I now have a small range of all of the old favourites ready to go.

If you, or someone you know, have any healthy fruit or veggies going to waste in the back yard, let me know and if possible we will use these natural products.

Remember NoShortcuts is homemade - just like mum made.

Xmas 2011

Hi again, Just under three weeks left until Xmas and another year bites the dust!! I don't know about any of you but I have to admit I haven't done much Xmas shopping as yet and really need to get organised. I am off to Melbourne again this year and EVERYONE for all sides of each family are coming, should be a hoot. But the main thing is all my babies will be together this time so very much looking forward to this and of course ANOTHER birthday!!! eek.
Anyway, I have been busy making your favourite chutneys with one of the most popular at this time of year being the Mustard Pickle to go with the glazed ham. I also have plenty of Tamarillo, Beetroot Relish etc.
I have also got a couple of unlabelled jars (new trial recipes) of Fig Chutney. Another new one is the Feijoa and Ginger Jam, this is lovelyishious if you like feijoas. If you are wondering how I still have this, I froze off some fruit in season that I got straight from the grower.
I made some Tomato Relish, the old fashioned sort with the curry flavour for an order and have a little left over, this is very useful to have in the pantry, not only for cold meats but as a pasta sauce, through rice, in a casserole or over cream cheese as a salsa.YUMMY
Specials -
Gherkin Relish 2 for the price of 1
I have a cancelled overseas order and have about 20 jars I would like to move as these are last seasons. They still taste great but because there are no colourings or additives the colour is slightly paler than normal now. As always there is a 100% money back guarantee with these.
Marmalade - 2 for the price of 1
A little bit of stock I would like to move with this as well. There is Grapefruit, Orange, Grapefruit and Orange or Lime. This is actually really nice as a coating over your roast chicken or the lime is lovely with blue cheese.
Orders
You can email or phone me if you need anything, the last day I can cook will be the weekend of the 17/18th, if I have run out of stock by then otherwise I can drop off to you or you can collect from home until 21st Dec.
Merry Xmas
Thanx to everyone for supporting another year of great eating and I would like to wish you and yours a happy and safe Xmas.

Tuesday, April 12

It is nearly Easter 2011; I sit and shake my head as to how fast it is going! This is then followed by Mothers Day on the 8th May, nearly half way though the year!!! OMG!! Easter for me will be spent in Melbourne when Ella turns 7! I will be going to Sydney mid June to catch up with Ziggy there who has just cut his first tooth at five months! Early autumn has been off to a good start with a supply of figs and feijoas, thanx Cathy, straight off the farm at Dairy Flat, YUMMM. If you enjoy these along with some ginger then the Fig, Date and Ginger Chutney is worth a try. One of my "guinea pigs" (thanx Jill) said it was divine. Feijoas is one of my favourite fruits and I have struggled with finding recipes that taste like feijoas that I can enjoy all year round. I am happy to say that the Feijoa and Ginger Jam is a great start, small stocks of this is also available. It is so new I haven't had labels made for them yet. I also tried a Fig and Apple Jam which is yum! All of your other favourites are in stock too, so let me know if you need anything or if you would like any gift wrapping done Email or phone me to get an order in for Easter or that Mothers Day gift, otherwise have a safe and happy Easter.

Lemon Honey

This Lemon Honey has been made from the freshest eggs direct from the chickens at Cathy's place in Albany and the lemons straight off her tree. You can't get fresher than that! It also has butter and castor sugar which together makes this a nice light lemony tasting curd. Just right for all of those puddings, couple it with a sweet short pastry and make into Lemon Meringue pie, drizzle over ice cream or fresh fruit.

Xmas 2010

Wow Xmas has snuck up on us and it is now only 5 1/2 weeks away, Oh My goodness!

Another busy four months since my last entry, with work, Hospice, travelling to see the kids overseas and a couple of local trips as well. Also an exciting new edition to the family is Ziggy Charles Brazier born to Justin and Bex on the 8th November, can't wait to meet him on the 2nd December when I go over for a few days.
And on the 22nd Dec I am off to Melbourne to spend Xmas with Myaka and family, who are moving there on the 25th November, how exciting to have them so much closer.
My garden is slowly making headway with fruit trees in and raised beds about to get underway. This has been held up a bit due to a number of things, so I am pleased to be back on track with the project.
All of your favourites are in stock and ready to grace your Xmas table, give as a part of your Xmas gifts or as your usual self indulgence.

I have trialed some Lemon Honey recipes so now have this also available.

If you wish to order some, let me know and I can organise to get to you on time.

Well its only two months since my last entry, so I must be improving... right????
I have sourced some tamarillos and now jars are back in stock, along with all of your other favourites.
I have also made Lime Marmalade and Grapefruit Marmalade from the fruit straight off my trees, so organically grown with no sprays or chemicals.

Mothers Day 2010

Hi again, I notice that it is 6 months since I last updated this, talk about slack! So I will go back one , and hope you all had a wonderful Xmas and New Year? Gosh it seems like ages ago now! I went to Sydney for my son Justin's wedding to the lovely Bex and had a great time with all the family. My daughter and family came down from Macau and stayed in a place at Copocabana Beach, fabulous spot! Then it was back to work and straight into restructure mode, which is still going on but we all still have jobs so that was a positive.
Mothers Day is this weekend and I am off to Wellington to go to Logan Browns for dinner, such a treat. So if you do require any goodies then let me know and I can drop off by Friday.
I made the tomato relish over summer which is quite tasty but still on the look out for the perfect feijoa recipe. I now have stock of all the favourites except of course the Tamarillo which is not quite in season as yet but I will update you when it is.
Cook Books , a reminder that I am still searching for these. As some of you are cleaning out your cupboards or moving your parents into villages then please remember me when going to throw these out.
Recipe Stories, with the help of a couple of people, I am at present conceptualising my idea of
doing peoples stories that include their favourite recipe. This is mostly around a condiment or chutney/relish/jam and how the recipe was handed down or what ingredients were available and why. I find this most fascinating and I believe there are so many stories to hear and tell out there, especially those that have come from overseas and ended up living here in godzone. So if you can help then let me know
Also, it seems that some of you didn't receive my last email so if you wouldn't mind could you just flick back a reply and say recieved please? As I am not sure who is not getting this.
Anyway, a very HAPPY Mothers Day to all you wonderful ladies and I hope all your dreams come true..... well get a cup of tea in bed at least!!!!

Sunday, November 15

I have had to restock supplies as my daughter has been selling the range in Macau and expects her first delivery by the end of November!!!! 36 jars!!! So I now have a very limited quantity of Tamarillo Chutney and unless I can get some more very soon then this will be it until next June. All other products are in stock or will be shortly and in time for Xmas.
XMAS is now only 6 weeks away and time is ticking over very quickly!! IF you want any presents for the office party, staff gifts, small hostess gift for that dinner invitation or chutney gift stacks as Xmas gifts then remember these can be gift wrapped to your requirements. Don't forget the Mustard pickle goes beautifully with the Xmas ham.
New products, I am working on some ideas with feijoas and have tried plain feijoa jam, ginger lemon and feijoa jam and a chutney. Some of you guinea pigs have enjoyed these but to be honest I can't say that I think I have perfected it yet. So if anyone has a really cool recipe I can try then let me know, free product in store if you do!!!
I have also made some lime marmalade as my lime tree was very laden with fruit this year, and I found this yummy as a marinade on roast chicken or with blue cheese. I had a few limes left over so I made some lime and orange marmalade for those of you who love it and can't eat grapefruit due to some medications.
Thai Chilli Jam, another firm favourite is now also available with No fish sauce included (my daughter doesn't do fish) so it is a less salty version of the same fabulous product. In fact I am making a normal brew as I write this...If there are any other dietary needs or requests then we can discuss further.
When bulk tomatoes are available again from my grower (this should be soon) then I will be trying a tomato relish recipe which has a curry slant, I trialled this last season from the tomates out of my garden and would have to say it was really tasty.
Bulk ordering of a product is also available. I have some people that buy 6-8 jars of the same product on a regular basis and I am happy to make up a "batch" just for you and this could potentially reduce costs as well.
My Garden, is now receiving a make over. I have had the trees topped and some removed to make way for loads of fruit trees and more veggie patches so I can grow my own products. It will be a long slow process but I hope to have a lot of it done by next autumn.
Cheese Course ...... I did however find time over the winter to attend a cheese making course (only one night a week for 6 weeks at the college) where I learnt how to make natural yoghurt, cream cheese, butter, sour cream, haloumi, camembert and a few others that I had never heard of before, all using a natural culture of sorts!!! So interesting, loved it.So needless to say I am now having yoghurt with fresh fruit and homemade museli for breakfast. It is very tasty! So if anyone wants any of these products let me know and I can make some up, or if you want to start your own yoghurt let me know and I can help you.

Anyway, must go and put the chutney into the jars
Take care and Eet Smakelijk.
